چکیده
Previous studies showed that murine polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) lyze tumour cells in the presence of wheat germ agglutinin or actinomycin D. This paper reports studies on whether a soluble factor participates in PMN-mediated cytolysis dependent on lectin or a chemotherapeutic drug. Tumour lysis was observed with supernatants from PMN cocultured with wheat germ agglutinin or actinomycin D. The supernatant from cultures of PMNs alone was not cytotoxic, but addition of these agents to the supernatant induced tumour lysis. PMNs released a soluble factor spontaneously into the medium and cytolysis was induced by a combination of this factor and wheat germ agglutinin or actinomycin D. This factor was not an

Dental plaque pH variation with regular soft drink, diet soft drink and high energy drink: an in vivo study.
BACKGROUND A high incidence of dental caries and dental erosion associated with frequent consumption of soft drinks has been reported. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pH response of dental plaque to a regular, diet and high energy drink. METHODOLOGY Twenty subjects were recruited for this study. All subjects were between the ages of 20 and 25 and had at least four restored tooth...
متن کاملDiet Soft Drink Consumption is Associated with the Metabolic Syndrome: A Two Sample Comparison
Comparative analyses of soft drink intakes in samples from the United States and Europe, and assessed intakes in relation to prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its individual components are currently lacking. We used data collected on cardiovascular health and dietary intakes in participants from two cross-sectional studies: the Maine-Syracuse Longitudinal Study (MSLS), conducted in Ce...

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of onion extract on growth performance, carcass characteristics and some blood metabolites in Ross and Cobb broiler chickens. One hundred sixty, 1-d-old broiler chickens (mean initial weight: 36.5 ± 1 g) of male sex (Ross-308 and Cobb) were randomly conducted as randomized complete design with 4 treatment and 4 replication. The experimental grou...

BACKGROUND Soy drink replacement in the diet might have beneficial effects on anthropometric and blood pressure values for overweight and obese subjects. Therefore, we are going to determine the effects of soy drink replacements on the weight, waist circumference and blood pressure among overweight and obese female youths. PATIENTS AND METHODS This was a cross-over randomized clinical trial o...

متن کاملUsers of 'diet' drinks who think that sweetness is calories.
We present the first experiment that was based on a novel analysis of the mental processes of choice. Sensed material characteristics such as the sweetness of a drink and symbolic attributes such as the source of sweetness stated on the label are put into the same units of influence on the response. Most users of low-calorie drinks thought about the energy in a drink quite differently from the ...
